Sudan, new violence and RSF attacks despite peace talks

The increase in violence in Sudan and the attacks by the Rapid Support Forces in El Fasher, Omdurman, and Bahri, including criminal attacks on hospitals in al-Fasher, and the destruction of the maternity facility in Omdurman, is completely unacceptable and impossible to understand in light of the peace talks that the United States has promoted in Geneva.
Ceasefire negotiations should aim to reduce violence and save Sudanese lives, not the other way around.
Mediators should make clear that they are not asking for the talks to result in more death, misery, and war crimes. Before expressing verbal enthusiasm that has little basis in reality, the parties must demonstrate a political commitment to a negotiated solution to the crisis. I sincerely hope that the mediators, especially the US, will abandon the attitude of “coddling” the men with guns who started the war in Sudan in the first place and show some realism in dealing with the horrific atrocities being perpetrated in the country and the current catastrophic situation in Sudan.

to include the UAE as a neutral observer in the peace talks is incongruous, especially the evidence that the UAE has supported the ongoing attacks by the Rapid Support Forces. Involving the UAE in facilitating the peace talks in Sudan is an attempt to absolve them of their role in instigating the Sudanese war which carries consequences, liability and, most importantly, “war compensation” for the Sudanese victims of the war and the costs of rebuilding the infrastructure destroyed by the militia and the UAE’s aggression on Sudan.
If the United States were to persist in engaging the UAE, it should do so in its authentic capacity as a member of the militia delegation, rather than as an impartial observer.
