Unfortunately Almaas Elman didn’t make it and Somalia, and elsewhere, mourns her death.
She was ambushed on 20 November in the Halane district in Mogadishu. She was in a car and was hit by a bullet.
It is still unclear who and why she was killed, but what is certain is that she was killed because of her work. The same happened to her father, Elman Ali Ahmed, assassinated in Mogadishu in 1996.
Almaas, who has dual Somali and Canadian citizenship, worked day and night for social justice, peace, human rights and to rehabilitate child victim of the war in Somalia.
Her sister, Ilwad, was shortlisted for the Nobel Peace Prize this year.
